Prevention and Public Health Group Mission Statement: UCSF Global Health Sciences' Prevention and Public Health Group is dedicated to improving health and reducing the burden of disease in the world's most vulnerable populations through applied public health research, education, and program improvement. We promote the use of evidence-based methods to build capacity in surveillance, monitoring and evaluation, epidemiology, clinical care and scientific best practices. We work with academic, governmental, and community partners throughout the world to accomplish these goals. About Us: The Global Health Sciences Prevention and Public Health Group (formerly the Institute for Global Health) is a dynamic, collaborative nexus of applied prevention and public health research. Over the years, we have worked closely with such key entities as the World Health Organization (WHO), the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's Global AIDS Plan (CDC-GAP), and the Global Fund to Fight AIDS, TB and Malaria. Our multidisciplinary faculty have led innovative, highly-effective programs in dozens of less-wealthy countries. The Prevention and Public Health Group's Director is George W. Rutherford, M.D., A.M. Dr. Rutherford is also Head, Division of Preventive Medicine and Public Health, and Salvatore Pablo Lucia Professor of Preventive Medicine at University of California, San Francisco. Contact:
