Education and Training International Traineeships in AIDS Prevention Studies (I-TAPS) In collaboration with the Fogarty International AIDS Training Program of the University of California at Berkeley, we have sponsored an International Traineeship in AIDS Prevention Studies (I-TAPS) Program since 1988. Up to ten applicants are selected each year to work with IGH and Center for AIDS Prevention Studies (CAPS) scientists in San Francisco. During the 10-week program, each Visiting Scientist develops a protocol for a specific research project with relevance to AIDS prevention to be carried out in his or her own country. Traineeship in AIDS Prevention Studies (TAPS) The Traineeships in AIDS Prevention Studies (TAPS) program trains scientists (already holding PhD, MD or other relevant doctoral degree) for academic and public health careers. At the end of the two- or three-year program each trainee will have completed an MPH degree or its equivalent; taken advanced courses in research methods, statistics and other topics relevant to their major fields of interest; participated in and led numerous seminars on research topics; designed several research protocols; completed at least one significant research project under the direction of a faculty mentor; made several presentations at national or international meetings; learned how to write a grant proposal; and submitted several papers for publication. Workshops We conduct a variety of technical workshops in countries for audiences ranging from government employees to university researchers.
