Global Research Enterprise Support (G-RES)
A guided UCSF focus group addressing issues of international collaboration.
International work is an expanding part of the UCSF mission, G-RES is convened to identify and rectify conditions inhibiting that work. Subjects can be broad ranging:
- Human Subjects Standards are different in each locality. Who mediates agreements?
- If I hire local workers, with NIH funds through UCSF, are they entitled to UC benefits?
- If HIPAA information is on a laptop, confiscated at border patrol, who is notified?
- If my graduate student needs emergency evacuation, who helps and who pays?
- I would like to begin work in Tanzania, but lack local expertise.

We place a great value on acquired expertise, both internationally and within UCSF. As a tool for global health and science initiatives, we maintain a searchable database of UCSF international collaborations. Openly accessible, the database serves as a reservoir of expertise, and is searchable by location, research activity, discipline, and funding source.
