As senior advisor to UCSF Global Health Sciences, Sarah Macfarlane brings extensive expertise in statistics and epidemiology to the program. A native of Great Britain, she formerly served as associate director in the Health Equity Theme of the Rockefeller Foundation, where she had responsibility for programs to improve public health and research capacities in sub-Saharan Africa and Southeast Asia. Previously, as a reader at the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, she headed the Unit for Statistics and Epidemiology.
In addition to her responsibilities with Global Health Sciences, Sarah Macfarlane coordinates a PARIS 21 Task Team seeking ways to improve data sharing between sectors and disciplines. She is a fellow of the Faculty of Public Health of the Royal Colleges of Physicians; a chartered statistician of The Royal Statistical Society, UK; and received a master's degree in operational research from the London School of Economics, London University.
