UCSF-UCB Global Health Framework Program
The UCSF-UCB Global Health Framework Program (GHFP) was established in September 2008 with funding from the National Institutes of Health/Fogarty International Center, to provide a new approach to learning among health professional students. Through the ‘Framework Programs for Global Health’, institutions create administrative frameworks to bring multiple schools together on the topic of global health and develop multidisciplinary global health curricula for students.
The program is focused on providing selected students, early in their careers, the chance to work in multidisciplinary teams on global health projects abroad. The 2009-2010 UCSF-UCB Framework program will assign accepted applicants to teams to work on projects over the 2010 summer at various international sites. The students will spend seminar time doing background work for their team projects, as well as learning GIS (global information system) technology, between late January and early May, 2010. The GIS technology will be taught by each team of students to those on the ground at host international sites, and may be incorporated into the international projects.
